I am often asked by beginners at knitting, do you have an easy beginner-friendly baby booties pattern using 2 straight needles. Yes you CAN KNIT baby booties all in one piece using straight needles.

This is an easy beginner-friendly knitting pattern to knit basic baby booties, Made all in one piece using 2 straight knitting needles.

I love knitting these little newborn baby booties. They make a Quick knitted gift idea for new baby arrival. 

This pattern is VERY easy to follow and I find myself just working away on them while watching a film. 

Baby Booties Knitting Pattern Newborn

Newborn (just out of hospital) 3.25mm Knitting needles 

0-3 months I use 4.00mm Knitting needles (UK) 

slightly under 50 g of Double knit yarn  

M1= knit the next stitch through the front and then make an extra stitch by working through the back loop

Garter stitch = All knit rows

You will be asked to PICK up new stitches ALONG the top front of the booties. (the 8 sts worked for 16 rows)

Starting the booties at the CUFF 

Cast on 32 sts. 

Row 1 to Row 28 Work in garter st 

Row 29: Purl 

Row 30: K1, M1, K18 

*TURN work, K8 sts. Repeat *-* 16 times 

TURN work, with the needle with the UNWORKED stitches on it, pick UP the 8 stitches from the side of the edge just knitted, and INcluding the 8 just picked up 

 continue in knitting until 1 last st, Make 1 st, and knit in last

Turn, K21, K2tog, k4, k2tog.

TURN, Using the needle with the unworked stitches on it, pick up 8 sts along the opposite side of the instep edge. 

now Knit into the 8sts  and continue knitting into each st until the end. 

Work 10 more rows in garter stitch. 

Nxt Row: *K1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k12, k2tog, k1,k2tog,k1*, repeat * *

Knit 1 row. 

Nxt Row:  *k1,k2tog,k2tog, k10, k2tog,k2tog,k1* repeat * *

knit 1 more row and bind off. 

To finish

Sew seams on the sole and up the back of the bootie,

making sure the seams are not pulled too tight

Make 2nd bootie
