This knit hat was made for my baby grandson just home from hospital.
The knitting pattern for the hat is very easy, beginner friendly and uses 2 straight needles. You knit the hat, and sew the seam pulling in the top tightly to finish.
1oz 100% acrylic double knit baby yarn
( 1 ball makes around 5 hats)
This hat was knitted using Straight needles size 4.00(UK)
1 large needle to sew seams and tie top.
Newborn Hats should measure when finished:
width 5.5”, length 6.75”
HAT KNIT PATTERN
Cast on 72 sts (very loose OR cast on with bigger size needles)
Hat Band Ribbing
knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch for 1.75 inches
*knit 1 row,
purl 1 row *
continue working * to * until work measures 6.0 inches
Ending with a purl row.
Start decrecing to Shape crown
Next row knit 2 stitches together = 36 stitches
Next row purl 2 stitches together = 18 stitches
Finishing
Cut yarn leaving a long tail and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining stitches,
one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.
Pull tight to close hole
Using the long tail, seam hat together matching hat ridges.
Weave in ends.
